22 May NIFTY Weekly Expiry # On 15 of May when I am writing this Blog, Market seems to out of War&Tariff Pressure and showing support at lower level, I will prefer to short NIFTY once the support is broke down to hedge my Positional Trades in NIFTY Heavyweight & ETF
Nifty Weekly Expiry refers to the weekly settlement (expiry) of Nifty options contracts on the NSE (National Stock Exchange) of India. Here’s a clear breakdown:
🔹 What is it?
The weekly expiry is the day when the Nifty index options for that week expire — meaning they cease to exist and are settled (profit/loss is calculated and finalized).
🔹 When does it happen?
- Every Thursday, unless it’s a holiday.
- If Thursday is a holiday, expiry happens on the previous trading day (usually Wednesday).
🔹 Which contracts does it involve?
- Nifty 50 Weekly Options
- Sometimes also Nifty Bank (Bank Nifty) or Nifty Financial Services (Fin Nifty) have their own specific expiry days:
- Bank Nifty: Usually expires Wednesday.
- Fin Nifty: Usually expires Tuesday.
🔹 Example:
If today is Monday, May 27, 2025, then the Nifty weekly expiry for the current week will happen on Thursday, May 29, 2025, unless it’s a holiday.
🔹 Why is it important?
- Many traders use weekly options to take short-term positions.
- Weekly expiries often see higher volatility and trading volume, especially near expiry time (Thursday afternoon).
- Used by options sellers for premium decay (theta decay strategies).
